Pizza.com Auction Dough Rises to over $2 million

by Adam Strong in Categories: Domain Auction

Pizza.comThe top-tier one word domain name Pizza.com is up for sale on Sedo.com and attracting a lot of attention in early bidding. In just 2 days of bidding, the domain has already attracted bids in excess of $2 million . Twenty bidders have already placed bids on the auction which has 5 more days left. This is a stellar domain but at these price levels, Domain Name News would expect there to be “end user” (rather than speculator) bidding on this domain name.

Typically with online auctions, bids slowly come in over the first few days only to quickly elevate during the last few minutes as bidders wait to “snipe” the auction. If this trend holds true, the Pizza.com auction could push over $3 million becoming one of the top sales ever for Sedo.com and putting the domain in the upper bracket of  highest reported domain sales.  Sedo.com brokered the sale of Vodka.com in late 2006 for $3 million to Russian Standard Vodka.

Frank Schilling on Cybersquatting

by Adam Strong in Categories: Domain Auction, Up to the Minute

Frank Schilling talks with attorney Damien Allen on Traverse Legal. Allen asks Frank some very direct questions about the domain name space and the legal issues surrounding domains.  This is a great lesson about domains and their relationship with intellectual property stakeholders from one of the leading domain investors. Traverse Legal is a Michigan based law firm.

Forget About Domains! License Plates Fetch Big Bucks

by Adam Strong in Categories: Domain Auction

domain name platesEat your heart out domainers, CNN reports on license plate auctions in Abu Dhabi where 300 plates sold for $56 million. The current world record for the most expensive license plate is $6.8 million for plate #5. The price is 10x more expensive than the car it was put on. The owner, Talal Khouri, is now gunning for plate #1 which will be auctioned next month. He claims to be willing to pay $15-20 million. Sounds to me like the domain name auction companies need to do some heavy-duty marketing in the UAE.
