auDA Announces a Series of New Reforms

The Australian Domain Name Administrator (auDA) has announced a series of reforms that will regulate domainers from registering any .au Second Level Domain for the sole purpose of reselling it.

The auDA board has set up guidelines to regulate domain sales in order to create transparency in the industry. (more…)

Skenzo switches to Yahoo! Feed

Anti-Phishing act to outlaw Whois-Privacy?

For those of you who haven’t heard about it already, Sen. Ted Stevens is proposing the Anti-Phishing Consumer Protection Act of 2008 (APCPA), which is also being supported by CADNA. We were first alerted to this topic by Michael Berkens’ post on The Domains. A recent article by Larry Fischer points out these are the reasons why this act is a bad idea:

  1. There are already laws against Phishing.
  2. This act makes whois-privacy illegal.
  3. The bill would also allow businesses to take over generic domains if they match their business name.

Niggers.com – More Racists Parking Pages ?

Nigger.com – Network Solutions Promoting Racism and Profiting?

UPDATE : Within minutes of running this story we are receiving reports that the http://www.Nigger.com page has been taken down, while http://nigger.com may still be up. I’m guessing DNS will propogate throughout the day and this page will no longer show by day’s end.

Nigger.com imageNigger.com, a domain name containing likely of one of the most controversial and overtly racist words in the English language is currently owned by the NAACP. The domain name which was likely set by the organization to not resolve has been “taken over” by the domain registrar Network Solutions. Digg this story

Class Action Suit Against Network Solutions and ICANN Underway

According to a press release from the law firm Kabateck Brown Kellner, a federal class action lawsuit has been filed in U.S. District Court, Central District of California against domain name registrar Network Solutions and ICANN. The suit clam that the NSI has forced customers into buying domains from the company rather than through potentially cheaper avenues, in effect netting the company millions of dollars.

GoDaddy first registrar to set up new ICANN Data Escrow Program

According to their press release, Go Daddy is the first registrar to follow participate in the new ICANN Data Escrow Program. The company is partnering with Iron Mountain, the ICANN designated Registrar Data Escrow Agent.
