.UK Registrations Surpass 7 Million

by Chad Kettner in Categories: Up to the Minute

Nominet, the registry that manages the .uk extension, announced that the top level domain has passed the 7 million mark in total registrations including one million registrations since July 2007.

“We are pleased to see that the .uk registry is growing year on year,” said Phil Kingsland, director of marketing and communications at Nominet. “This, coupled with the high level of consumer trust in .uk emphasises the value of businesses having a .co.uk domain name. It has become a key element of a UK-based company’s brand identity.”

.Org, another popular TLD, also recently passed the 7 million mark.

In the Silent Domain auction for the SES conference, which originally was supposed to end yesterday, the domain “iq.net” was re-listed accidentally, even though it had originally been reported as sold at the Internext for $17,000.00. Participants in the auction were informed about the problem via email a few hours before bidding ended. Recently Moniker/Snapnames had accidentally listed and sold a .com version of a domain instead of the .net version. Read all the details after the jump. (more…)

Stephen Douglas Joins WhyPark.com

by Chad Kettner in Categories: Up to the Minute

WhyPark.com has announced that Stephen Douglas is the company’s new Vice-President of Business Development.

Douglas has been an active contributor to the domain industry for a long time. He began investing in domain names in the mid-1990s before moving into a more public role by advising companies such as DomainHop (now DomainSponsor) and GoDaddy. Following this, he was the senior domain consultant at both BulkRegister and SnapNames while also creating DropGuild.com, a site that allowed users to see traffic on expiring domains prior to their release (it was purchased by Demand Media).

Many domainers will also recognize Douglas as the executive producer of Name Intelligence’s 2007 Domain Roundtable Conference in Seattle.

“We’re excited to have Stephen on board,” said Craig Rowe, President of WhyPark. “He brings an incredible amount of industry expertise, and his energy and passion for the business is contagious.  Stephen’s refreshing approach challenges the status quo. We look forward to his contributions as we continue to launch new services and enhancements.”

ParkingPanel.com New Feed, New Features Launching Today

by Adam Strong in Categories: PPC industry

Tags: , , , , ,

For many domainers, the launch of ParkingPanel.com in the fall of ’06 was a welcome addition to the PPC space. The Oklahoma-based company saw a quick growth spurt with some large domain portfolio owners switching over to their system. Then in February ’08 the plug was pulled on the Google feed syndication through Ask.com. Revenues reportedly bottomed out and signs of life from ParkingPanel were few and far between. Well, ParkingPanel is still alive and back with a new Google feed and reportedly they’re rolling out some new features as well.

A day ago I caught a snippet on ParkingPanel’s Roy Barrets Facebook page that piqued my interest. His profile read “Roy Barrett is ecstatic about the new ParkingPanel.com ad feed provider!”.

Here’s 3 features from the new features being announced that I found interesting :

New feed – Roy couldn’t tell me who (per contractual obligations) but it isn’t hard to figure out from domains on their DNS such as Planets.com or AT.com that they are using a Google feed. (I’m not good at figuring out which one. . . maybe someone can point that out to me in the comments.)

New Templates – They’re releasing new templates because of the new provider requirements (some of the old ones can be seen here). More notably they’re rolling out additional adult templates (check out pornfest.org for a sample)

1-Click Landers – Although it’s only well-suited for some domains, 1-click is always in high demand . This is a welcome addition for maximizing earnings

Check out their site for more information and to sign up (if you want use our referral code) .

The news going out today from ParkingPanel can be seen after the jump : (more…)

Barack Obama announces his running-mate, Joe Biden

Barack Obama discusses why he chose Joe Biden as his running-mate.

With yesterday’s announcement of the Barack Obama and Joe Biden ticket, Domain Name News has launched into full election year campaign coverage. We were at the announcement at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, to see what the Senator from Illinois would tell us about his choice for a new domain name.

Obama refused to comment on why his campaign is not using .mobi *. He refused to comment on whether he’ll be bidding on the ebay auction for ObamaBiden.org . . . . Well alright, he didn’t really refuse. He just couldn’t hear me shouting 25 feet away from him in a sea of his chanting supporters. :) Obviously, there wasn’t any chance I was going to do any talking to Obama, especially about domain names. In all seriousness though, if you are interested, I was actually at the event. Here’s my Obama-Biden campaign pictures.

Back to politics, domain names and Obama-Biden. CNN focused some attention to some of the more obvious choices for domain names for the newly announced Democratic Presidential ticket. ObamaBiden.com would be the obvious choice for the campaign, but before we discuss the Obama-Biden campaign and their domain name strategy, we thought we’d give you a little domain name history from past Presidential winners and hopefuls, a little law tidbit and then a snippet of domain history behind the Barack Obama campaign.
