Dell buys “adamo.com” domain name from Tucows

by Frank Michlick in Categories: Up to the Minute

Tags: , , , , , , ,

According to a blog post on One Degree, Tucows’ YummyNames unit has sold the domain name adamo.com to Dell. Details of the deal have not disclosed other than it was directly brokered by Bill Sweetman of YummyNames with Dell. Adamo is the name of Dell’s new luxury notebook line, and the domain name now points to their site. Dell had previously been using the domain name AdamoByDell.com and claimed to have contacted Tucows through a broker before, but broke off contact when the broker got the impression that the price would be too high. The domain name was originally part of a portfolio of names of a company called Mailbank, which was purchased by Tucows as part of the Netidentity acquisition in 2006.

.tel passes 100,000 domains

by Frank Michlick in Categories: Registries

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Since the general availability phase of the new .TEL domain started on March 24th, the registry has now already passed 100,000 registrations according to insider sources. A 6-12 hour delay in new domain propagation, seems to confirm the high registry load. It seems that many investors, speculators and other registrants flock to the launch of the new TLD due to the availability of one-word generic domains and the supposed SEO potential of the domain.

The registry had also yesterday published a video ad for the launch of the new domain, embedded after the jump. (more…)

In light of the news that Toys.com lost it’s Google placement, DNN reached out to SEO consultant John Andrews to get his take on the Toys.com deal and his view on an effective strategy to take using this multi-million dollar domain name asset.

Toys ‘R’ Us was the #1 player in the offline toy industry, and National A1 already controlled boys.com, girls.com, and babies.com. Toys R Us matched bids all the way up past $5 million before National A1 ran out of steam (or money).
