Breaking News – Oversee Acquires Moniker

by Adam Strong in Categories: Domain Auction

Oversee monikerOnline marketing and domain monetization company, Oversee.net, announced today that they have acquired domain registrar, broker and live domain auction company, Moniker.com. In an email sent out this morning by SnapNames.com, the company relayed the news of the acquisition to their customers.

We’re contacting you with the news that Moniker and its TrafficClub program, well-known service providers in the domain name industry, have been acquired by Oversee.net.

This will not directly affect how you sell your names through SnapNames, either via our website or at our SnapNames Live auction at DOMAINfest Global later this month. However, the combination of services and capabilities by Oversee, SnapNames and Moniker bring all customers a menu of services that support needs throughout the life cycle of a domain name, including procurement, monetization and sales. Watch for more information in the coming weeks about new services available to you.

This acquisition marks the second major domain company purchased by Oversee and shows a serious commitment by the company in dominating the domain after-market space. Oversee acquired SnapNames in June 2007 which provide the company with one of the top companies in the expiring after-market auction space. This was shortly followed by an announcement to hold live auctions on the SnapNames platform at the Domain Fest Global conference, thereby marking Oversee’s entry in to the live auction space.

Moniker.com, an ICANN accredited domain name registrar, is currently recognized as the leader in the live domain auction space. With several years of highly successful live auction partnerships with Rick Schwartz’s TRAFFIC conference and additional success with smaller niche live domain auctions at other internet oriented trade shows, Moniker has only recently seen any competition in the live auction space. DomainTools.com, Sedo.com and NameBuyers.com have all held live auctions as well, but represent a much smaller overall sales volume in comparison. As Oversee moves to join the competition by holding a live event powered by SnapNames at Domain Fest Global, this acquisition of Moniker should only provide a much greater resource in those efforts.

Oversee’s Domain Fest Global has competed with TRAFFIC conferences, and Moniker currently runs the live auctions at TRAFFIC, but word is everyone will be working together to benefit buyers and sellers at both sets of events. Moniker and their TrafficClub program have had a rocky relationship with Oversee in the past and Rick Schwartz and some Oversee executives have had a bit of “history”, but we understand now the hatchet has been successfully buried and that a strong bridge has been built back between all parties.

Update : Moniker just made the announcement on their site as did Oversee, and Seevast, the company that formerly owned Moniker.
