by Adam Strong in Categories: Domain Auction

We are were remotely live blogging the auction results of the pay per placement Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C.  2011 Live domain auction held in Florida by the organizers of TRAFFIC today. As always we do not guarantee the accuracy of these results. Some of the unsold names were offered at financing terms based on their real reserve, a 25% down payment and financing over 1-3 years in a “second chance” round. In the second chance round only one additional name out of  the seven that were brought up again sold ( Some work remains after the auction, as a number of domains were marked sold pending seller approval.

According to DNN’s tally (including the sales pending seller approval), the auction sold 45 of 120 domains for a total of $277,300.00 at a sell-through rate of 37.5%.

Explanation of the Auction Stati:

  • SOLD: Domain was sold to highest bidder
  • SOLD * pending seller approval: Domain was pronounced sold by the auctioneer since bidding was close to the reserve price. However since the reserve price was not reached, the sale needs to be approved by the seller.
  • pass: The domain name was not sold since there were no bids or bidding did not reach the reserve.

Graet auction! Why, because we’ve always heard that failure is a great thing to build on and when you fail as often as that auction platform you are bound to be great!

Interesting. The sell rate (about 38% sold I believe) is well up on the last few live domain show auctions, but the overall total isn’t too hot. Perhaps some sales will come in during the closing period for the conference, though.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for taking the time posting results. The last live bid info is priceless! It’s good to know what the room feels a name is worth and gives the seller an idea of where to price the name for a sale.

Stay well,

October 18, 2011 @ 6:09 pm EDT

What was the total

October 18, 2011 @ 6:19 pm EDT

I feel it was a good try. It is back to the same problem,
you can not count on domainers (in the room) to bid aggressively.

Traffic needs to get more end users to make the auction an
overwhelming success. (I know we all know that.)

I give Rick credit for at least trying something new.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

It will be interesting to see what Rick does for the next
Traffic auction. You know he will take it up another
2 or 3 notches.

Big massive fail on the .XXX domains. Looks like the domain community isn’t buying the hype from ICM, just like the adult industry isn’t.

October 18, 2011 @ 6:27 pm EDT

No failure the auction was fine. What have you done troll?

October 18, 2011 @ 6:39 pm EDT

what does the word “PASS” in the domain status means ? is it means that the seller decided not to sell on that price ? or has another meaning

October 18, 2011 @ 7:11 pm EDT

Most .XXX domains sold! Interesting… And nice prices…

October 18, 2011 @ 11:30 pm EDT

When this second chance will begin? Do it provide live streaming?

October 19, 2011 @ 4:56 am EDT

Most of the domain names indeed very nice domain names ended up unsold. But if we look at the live bids then it seems that people were interested in buying domains but not at higher price.

The names were priced high for the market and putting .tv extensions in did not help this auction. Bring back online bidding also.

October 20, 2011 @ 1:17 pm EDT

Perhaps some sales will come in during the closing period for the conference, though.

I think freshvegetables/com was a steal, seems like some acceptance of .xxx already goingby some of the bids

@Andrew: Coming up, I did the math right after the auction but am not quite sure why it wasn’t posted.

@mayed: “pass” means that the domain did not sell. This could be because there was no bidding or because the bidding never reached the reserve. We’ll add an explanation to future posts.

@bipin: The second chance took place right after the auction.
