I agree with you that some names were snatched up cheap yesterday. Mainly the .mobi names went for a song. There were however a ton of .com domain names with what I thought were ridiculous reserves.

There are many people with 20,000 domain names. If you manage your portfolio correctly with rock bottom cash parking rates most of your domain names should be paid off by the end of the year.

Robert what type of cash parking do you use? Or have you jumped to a better source of revenue?

I too had a domain in the auction, except my name was in the live auction. It was towards the end and did not even receive a bid, hence my comment in y earlier post.
I have had a hard time generating any serious revenue from any of my 2,500 names.
I just rely on my current revenue stream to pay for the registration fees. Just hoping to sell them eventually.

20,000 domains? You must be making good money just to cover the annual registration fees. Or use a cheaper registrar than I do!

Hi Shawn,

I liked your post; I'm likely that fellow with all the sub-$350 domains in the online auction. They selected 150 of my domains for the silent auction, out of my 20,000+ domains. Please email me: microdomain at hotmail, for a short-list of strong domains, at lower prices.

Yours,
Robert

I agree with you A.D.D Full time. More nights would be better and moving the .net to the online auction. What are the highest .Net names to sell to date? Does anyone know?

One thing to consider about this auction is the fact that there are a lot of domainers right now distracted by the .ASIA land rush auctions. I don't know if you guys have been paying attention but there are some pretty high bids being placed on these domain names. It is costing some domainers hundreds of thousands.

G.auction, I agree with you that some names were snatched up cheap yesterday. Mainly the .mobi names went for a song. There were however a ton of .com domain names with what I thought were rediculous reserves.

I was actually surprised at what some names fetched and wasn't impressed with the .com selection list produced by Moniker. Another factor was the fact that the domain list didn't come out until 10 days before leaving some people that were going to attend with me back at home.

I see a few decent names on the silent auction still left but overall they must produce better lists, which I think will get tougher and tougher over time.

Once each decent domain name falls into the right hand and it is further developed, there will be no way to pry that loose.

Most web venture capitalists are finally starting to realize that a good domain name is the first step to any online venture and the second step is to get a ton of applicable domains pointed to this good domain name to limit competition and maximize traffic.

This can only keep the domain names rising in the long run.

Kudos to Moniker for getting some excellent inventory, and some at very good prices. Some great names were snatched up cheap yesterday.

Still, concerns remain. Many names sold without multiple bids and the pool of buyers continued to be low. Still, thought it was a nice success...for a change.

Fewer parties and more auctions at night? The regulars will call that heresy.

Live domains should be done over 2 or 3 nights - This will keep everyone looking forward to the event, otherwise it gets very boring after the 1st 80 names. .Net should have been sold in the online auction....
We could have saved a lot of time and it would keep the negative comments about the recession out of the game. Once everyone realizes the importance of owning relevant names, the numbers will improve drastically.
Oh well...

I found this submission list to be less then desireable when it came to the domain names. I almost completely fell asleep when they went through the .net list of domain names hoping for some sucker to scoop them up. How many of them sold anyways? 8

What was with the list of useless .net domain names and who would bid on them in the first place. Most of the good domains ended up having a rediculous reserve resulting in a very useless auction to attend.

They should be more careful when picking the list since the names they choose can destroy the reputation of the industry in general.

On the surface it may look like the auction produced very little but the reality was that there were a lot of crumby names that fetch quite a bit.

I also noticed in the auction some cheap domain names under 350 that seem like a steal not sure how these missed the main auction.

On one final note however, there were a ton of .mobi domain names that sold for excellent prices. Some which I would call a steal seeing the new technology that Google and Microsoft are working on involving voice recognition.
