Flying.com Sells For $1.1 Million

by Frank Michlick in Categories: Domain Sales

As reported by TechCrunch UsedAirplanes, Inc. completed their purchase of Flying.com for $1,1m USD this morning. The company, which operates UsedAirplaines.com, is going to launch a new site on the domain as of June 2010. While the domain, which was originally registered in 1994, has been on whois privacy since the beginning of 2007, the changes in nameservers tell a story of changes in ownership.

According to our information the domain was sold by Buydomains in September 2009 to a group of investors that wishes to remain anonymous. While the sales price is has not been published, the press release by the new buyer states that it was listed for $845,000 the day of the sale. Since then Mark J Horne, CEO of UsedAirplanes, has been trying to buy the name from the investors and finally closed the transaction last week. He had been given use of the name before the purchase.

Fly.com had been sold to Travelzoo for about $1,8m in 2009.
