"LaFontaine" exactely means "The Fountain" in French but IMO this is not were it takes its value from. "Jean De La Fontaine" is usually called "Lafontaine" and he is probably one of the top 3 most known French authors with "Victor Hugo" and "Molière". I guess millions of young school boys and girls study him and this is probably where most of the search volume on the internet comes from which makes it a very valuable name. Probably more than what was paid.
