Hi,

It it just me but does the cost of attending domain auctions…disguised as “domain conferences”, might not be the way to move the industry in the right direction?

I do not care where your on the spectrum of this wonderful industry…it seems to me, to much money is going into a lot of “fluff” just to attract “domainers” to these events for the domain auctions…and not educating and investing in and inviting advertising and marketing/branding people/Madison ave folks…. “decision makers” from ever major and minor company on the planet.

I would rather see 2 of these people at DomainFest for every 20 “regular high profile” domainers…that attend every domain auction…oh..my bad…domain conference.

Its not to hard to explain to someone selling “tools”…that they might be better off buying tools.com for 2 million or so, than speeding $20,000-$50,000 a month on Google adsense ad(s) with a 2%-4% CTR.

I am sure that IF Sear’s (Craftsman Tools) and Snap On Tools…could “get it”, Now you would have a “real domain auction” with people that should own these domains…not domainers. That would be quite a domain auction & bidding war…

**Note this is just an off the top of the head example…I do not even know who owns tools.com.

I guess what I am trying to say… The industry as a whole has lost the vision and path and power domain names can bring to the “table”…not the same old table…but a new table…the real world table.

I do not know how you do his going to the “Playboy Mansion” & Partying. I like a good party as much as the next guy, and DomainFest ALWAYS has a great one.

But,

The Economy “sucks” on many levels…domain industry is not immune, yet the prices for these events just keep going up…all the why their “parking revenue” paid to domainers continues to drop.

When all is said in done this event will cost many people $1,500 – $10,000+ depending on where you are coming from.

Seems pretty step…considering the times and that pretty soon you might be able to buy a ‘pretty good HOUSE’ for $20K…if things start to get even worse.

Sorry,

Just have not “ranted” about anything for at least 3 months…BTW: a new record for me….LOL

Peace to everyone…I do hope I can make DoaminFest this year, despite my rant…LOL

Best,
Dan
