Someone Smells Like a Freshly Registered Domain

by Adam Strong in Categories: Miscellaneous

I found an interesting  product today while searching for some domain news articles.  It’s Domain, the men’s fragrance by Mary Kay.

Mary Kay describes the fragrance :  “Wrap him in the scent of hearth and home with Domain® Cologne Spray. He’s a breath of fresh air and so is this blend of lavender and oak moss.”

Nothing says “Domain” like lavender and oak moss, eh?

Maybe we can offer a rewrite and remix with DNN’s version : “Wrap him in the scent of the sea breeze of a beach side bungalow and the musky air of a grotto with Domain Cologne Spray. He’s a breath of fresh .com registrations and so is this blend of whiskey and Cuban cigar aromas.”

Could this be the perfect gift for your domainer husband/boyfriend ? Unfortunately, Domain cologne is not available at the domain    : )

I can still smell lavender at every turn after spending a week in Provence over a decade ago, and if I can remember I used to pull oak moss and haul it to the landfill. :)

Would love to see hte landing page for this product, and what domain name it has…

Oddly enough, it is also a Registered TM for WEED KILLER.

Hmm… maybe it is the same brew, just bottled differently eh?

This is actually a serious article. They’re trying to TM the word “DOMAIN”.

Think about it as you spray the fragance on your rugged domainer face…and pray:

“Dear God, please don’t let a men’s fragrance prevent me from marketing my domains…”

They may be trying to trademark the name, but they surely will only be able to get it for a mens fragrance or personal care products. There are other uses of the word “domain” in business – a upscale furniture store in the Boston area is one that comes to mind off-hand. They could never get an exclusive trademark on it for any us.

Does Domain Name News own a trademark on its name and logo? At a minimum you should get an Illinois trademark – just mail in a form, 3 uses of the name and a check for $10 and voila! I did it for my business on advice of former counsel as it would protect me at least in the Land of Lincoln.

Mary Kaye is not “trying to trademark” the name. That is an accomplished fact. The mark was issued in 2000 to Mary Kaye, with a “Typed Drawing” mark drawing code:
