Trellian Launches Direct Navigation Ad Network

The Australian based company Trellian has just sent an email to its registered users announcing the launch of the “Trellian AdNetwork“, which allows the purchase of direct navigation domain traffic. The traffic originates from the domains parked on the Above.com Domain Parking Manager. According to the note the network reaches over 200 million unique visitors a month via over 1.2 million domains and redirects users to the domains to the advertisers in the network. The bid prices in the network are on a per unique visitor basis.

Advertisers will place a bid based on keywords or a list of categories and define their daily budget. The top bidder for the keyword receives the majority of the traffic, Bidders 2-5 will receive a percentage of the available traffic. Any bidder ranked sixth or lower will not receive any traffic. During the open beta only a small percentage of the available traffic will be made available to bid on.  Any of the traffic will only be sent to the advertisers if they pay a higher price than the domains earns from the other parking providers.

200,000,000 divided by 1,200,000 = 166.67 uniques delivered per domain per month. That’s 5.56 a day.

That’s actually a pretty high unique count as I know many domainers have tons of low volume domains.

@Domain Parking: If you’re looking to advertise your new parking company, please contact us to buy advertising instead of advertising it in the comments.

@Tim: Considering the number is from Sept’09, the number of domains could be higher by now. The nameservers used by above.com show a lower number of domains though according to webhosting.info.

I’ve just registered and deposited money for a campaign, the only immediate fallback is the lack of demographics for the traffic – in especially no country selection.

Otherwise, easy to use interface with lots of keyword facilities – see how it goes!

Great stuff but quality of traffic is key. Give me 100 quality people verses 100,000 spammers or crap traffic from russia or asia..I’ll pay extra as most shit domains have shit traffic, quality is still the key not quantity.

I applaud Trellian for offering this service.

Do they have cutting edge software in place to prevent click fraud?
That is what the buyers will ask.
And, the buyers will be more knowledgeable about the risk than us.
If Above/Trellian does not, that will be calculated in the bid offers.
Which means that the click buyers might be better off continuing with their present suppliers.

Plus, many of the click buyers do not want traffic from parts of the world that does not convert.

I believe Chad’s comments are the same strategy the major click buyers will follow.
Time will tell.
