“First time dealing with inflation?”

The weakness in that argument is that Verisign’s basic cost have decreased over the past couple years.

Except for Verisign’s entertainment expenses which increased due to the wine and dining of the new CEO of Icann. For example, the lavish party they threw in Washington, DC last quarter for Rod Beckstrom.
Or, the expensive parties at all of the Icann meetings.

I assume their lobbying cost in Washington, DC have increased.

Running the .com registry is like printing money.
The cost of running a registry is less than $ 2. per domain and they are now charge $ 7.34 .

For .NET you need to include the $0.75 as the ICANN Variable Registry-Level Fee (as defined in the .net Registry Agreement). So actually, the .net fee will be $4.65 + $0.75 = $5.40

[Actually it is a 10% increase on .NET wholesale]

As of July 1, 2010, the registry fees:
for .com domain names will increase from $6.86 to $7.34
for .net domain names will increase from $4.23 to $4.65
