NamesCon | Las Vegas January 11th-14th 2015 2014-12-16 17-56-02

A change on the Namescon Agenda lead The Domains to ask if NamesCon had bought out domainFEST – well, here’s the official press Release and reply. DomainFest becomes the first day of the conference geared towards newcomers. If you read the text on the updated DomainFest website, it appears that there’s a plan to carry the name forward and use it for “a series of international DomainFest regional events”.

DomainFest is one of the longest running events in the Domain Name industry. Its early origins in the early 2000s was a one day gathering with a mix of sharing new industry information and a social networking event. DomainFest will continue that tradition after being acquired by NamesCon.

Originally established as a casual meeting of domain investors as early as 2002, Donna Mahony generously donated the domain name to Oversee in 2006. Starting with small conferences in LA and Barcelona, Oversee grew Domainfest into a large, global conference series, attracting domainers, marketing professionals and celebrity speakers from all over the world.

“We are very proud of the industry-leading conference that we built up over the years”, said Debra Domeyer, CEO of  “DomainFest is one of the longest running events in the Domain industry.  We are proud to recognize the importance of the DomainFest events to the industry and are extremely happy to be passing the DomainFest ownership into the capable hands of NamesCon.”

Richard Lau, producer of NamesCon said “We are carrying the DomainFest torch forward. NamesCon co-founder Jothan Frakes and I met at the Seattle DomainFest in March 2005. We are immensely proud to be able to announce that Sunday, Jan 11, 2015 is ‘DomainFest @NamesCon’.” Like DomainFest conferences in the past, NamesCon 2015 Las Vegas will also host a domain auction (run by Right of the Dot) and feature Keynote speakers and world-class entertainment.

DomainFest @NamesCon will start at 10am on Sunday Jan 11, 2015 and the day will be an excellent venue for newcomers and veterans alike. Jothan Frakes, who has a long history of producing domain conferences stated, “The DomainFest events had great energy and I am delighted to see that the success of NamesCon will maintain the spirit and legacy of DomainFest.”  Jothan has planned out a full agenda for the Domainfest @NamesCon day.

The Sunday Evening Networking and Entertainment event for DomainFest @NamesCon will feature Peter Pavone – the Las Vegas Best 2014 Tribute Artist of the Year.

DomainFest @NamesCon is included in your conference pass when you register for NamesCon 2015 Las Vegas.

Two great conferences, one low price.

BREAKING: New domain name event, Namescon to be held in Vegas, January 13-15th, 2014

A new domain name conference, NamesCon, will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 13th to 15th, 2014.  Well-known industry veteran, Richard Lau is the founder of the event and he has tapped Jodi Chamberlain from 32Events, to help coordinate.  Both Lau and Chamberlain are no strangers to domain events.  Lau has been involved in organizing several exclusive domainer get-together events in both Seattle and Las Vegas as well as the popular Water School “Water Night” fund raising events. Chamberlain has worked on a number of events and conferences, including some T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conferences and Domaining Spain.

Wherefore art though, WebFest (formerly known as DOMAINfest)
While the industry has become accustomed to announcing their Webfest / DomainFest conference in the 11th hour leading up to the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference, there have been no formal announcements so far this year. With the departure of organizer Aaron Kvitek earlier this year, rumors about the future of the event have been circulating. The official answer DNN received from a spokesperson is that there will be “a DomainFest/Webfest during the first half of 2014.” More details are to be expected in the “coming months”.

Good Timing
The January dates of Namescon fill the void left by DomainFest, but Lau tells us that the date and venue were also selected because of the close timing of another popular event Affiliate Summit West 2014 (aff).  The dates of the Namescon show around Affiliate Summit gives domain professionals another reason to venture to Las Vegas, but also has the potential to expose Affiliate Summit attendees to the domain space.  Lau told DNN, “NamesCon is the natural evolution of smaller, more intimate events I have been involved with in Las Vegas over the past 5 years. We are expecting that this will be THE networking event of the West Coast for early 2014.

The website for the event which just went up today (still obviously a work in progress) promises:

There is no channel like the domain name channel, and 2014 is an amazing year of expansion, growth, and change. This means opportunity – if you know the way through the maze to the cheese.

Come and meet some of the “who’s who” players in the internet naming space. We mean “alpha dogs”.

Speaker currently listed on the conference page include:

  • James Morfopoulos (Director of DomainTools Inc, COO of Ocean Networks)
  • Richard Lau
  • Patrick Carleton
  • Jothan Frakes
  • Paul Nicks (Go Daddy)
  • Adam Dicker (DNForum/TheArtOfTheName)

The event kicks off with a cocktail party on January 13th and will last the full day on January 14th/15th. The venue for the event still has to be confirmed.

Guest contributor Zak Muscovitch is a domain name lawyer, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He has been practicing domain name law for over ten years and is now running for the election for a seat on the CIRA Board of Directors. Go to and for more information. Voting is open to CIRA members until noon ET September 29th, 2010.

Two days ago, on September 21, 2010, CIRA (the Canadian Internet Registration Authority) held its Annual General Meeting and Symposium in Toronto, called, “Canadians Connected”, and it was a world class event.

Integrated into the usual corporate housekeeping involved in annual meetings, the Symposium brought together .CA domain name owners from all over the country and a CIRA attendance record was set. Nearly 500 people  participated in person, and hundreds more online.

Orchestrated by CIRA CEO Byron Holland with the support of a small army of capable and dedicated staff, Canadians Connected presented what can only be considered a visionary, and arguably somewhat miraculous, approach to  reinvigorating the Canadian Internet community.

After organizing the largest event for the Domain Industry with their recent DomainFEST Global in Santa Monica,’s DomainSponsor unit has now announced the dates and location for their European event. DOMAINfest Europe will be held from October 6-7th in Prague in the Czech Republic at the InterContinental Hotel. The addition of the European event clearly underlines the company’s commitment of establishing a presence in Europe after opening an office in Frankfurt, Germany late last year. The event will also feature a live domain auction. Agenda and speaker details will be announced in June.

With this event the domain industry will be even busier in September/October than with DomainFest and TRAFFIC in January 2010:
