Seven Hours to register for Webfest Global at the Early Bird rate

You a little less than 7 hours of the time of this post to register for next year’s Webfest Global in Santa Monica (formerly known as DOMAINfest Global) for $1,095. The rate will increase by $200 as of tomorrow. Webfest Global will be organized by’s DomainSponsor and will be held atFebruary 5-7, 2013 at the Fairmont Santa Monica.

The even features a party at Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Pavilion on February 6th. Webfest Global conference attendees will enjoy the rare opportunity of having dinner and cocktails directly under this amazing vehicle.  Former NASA Astronaut Garrett Reisman will make a special appearance to share stories, answer questions and show souvenirs from past missions.

Webfest Global 2013 Conference to Be Held February 5-7, 2013 in Santa Monica, California

The company’s domain parking pages were accidentally blocked by an anti-virus software earlier this year announced today that its domain parking unit DomainSponsor has entered into an agreement with Team Cymru, a specialized Internet security research firm and non-profit dedicated to making the Internet more secure by helping organizations identify and eradicate problems in their network. 

Given the size and scope of its DomainSponsor traffic monetization network, the company sees itself in a uniquely advantageous position to help detect and identify potentially malicious communications to share via its relationship with Team Cymru to benefit the wider Internet Security Community.

According to’s CEO Debra Domeyer, the company “want[s] to support their efforts to help other companies avoid network problems caused by malware and to help users have a safer online experience.

Earlier this year in May, an author by the name of EarlGrey wrote on that’s domain parking subsidiary DomainSponsor had been “hacked” and was “spreading malware“. The report turned out to be a false alarm, as confirmed by’s VP of Marketing & Communications, Aaron Kvitek, and a comment posted by the original author. The company’s domain parking pages had accidentally been blocked by an anti-virus software and was able to work with the vendor to remove the block.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. July 17.®, announced today the appointment of Gene Chuang as its Chief Technology Officer.  Chuang will be responsible for identifying and building technology platforms that support the growth of Oversee’s current and future business initiatives.

Known for his expertise in mobile, social and search marketing platforms, Chuang is an experienced technology development professional and team leader. He was Executive Director of AT&T Interactive, leading teams of engineers in Data Systems and Mobile Engineering. He also served as Director of Engineering at Yahoo Search Marketing where he led the development of large-scale search platforms.  Most recently, he was Director of Engineering at Chegg, an online network for college students that offers assistance with homework, course selection and textbook rentals, purchases and resale

Debra Domeyer named CEO of, Scott Morrow to leave the company

According to a press release just issued by, Scott Morrow left the company and Debra Domeyer was named CEO. Scott Morrow and Debra Domeyer were just named co-CEOs on January 30th of this year. Debra was CTO of since 2008. According to the press release Scott Morrow “has decided to leave the company to pursue other interests.” Just at the DOMAINfest Global in Santa Monica, which ended February 2nd the two were introduced to the press as co-CEOs.

DOMAINfest Global Silent Auction Nets $50,715 USD

The silent DOMAINfest Auction by Moniker & SnapNames concluded today, selling another 21 out of the 323 listed domains for a total of $50,715 USD. The live auction during the event 23 sold domains out of 61 domains for $393,450 USD. Both results are unofficial and according to our own tally.

After sold Moniker and Snapnames to Keydrive (DNN broke the news) at the end of January, it will be interesting to see if will continue to partner with another partner for the DOMAINfest live auctions. Results for many of the last live auctions at conferences have been rather disappointing.

According to industry sources, Keydrive S.A. will announce this morning that they have purchased Moniker & Snapnames from Information about the sale has already been posted on the companies website and was also added to ICANNWiki yesterday.

KeyDrive S.A./Luxembourg includes the Key-Systems Group in St. Ingbert/Saarland (Germany), the NameDrive Group (Luxembourg/USA) as well as Moniker and SnapNames (Florida and Oregon/USA) with more than 160 employees.

After the takeover of Moniker in January 2012 the group ranks among the TOP 10 biggest ICANN registrars in 6th place; the group currently administers a total of more than 5.4 million domains.

Rumors about a potential sale of Moniker & Snapnames had been circulating for  a while. DNN expects an official announcement to be published shortly and will update this post accordingly. Keydrive was created by merging KeySystems and Namedrive.

As announced via email by today, the company has laid off 13% of its workforce. The official announcement sent to DNN in an email says:

As part of its plan to address new growth opportunities, has realigned its work force resulting in a staff reduction of 13 percent. These moves, along with pending new hires, will allow the company to leverage core assets to innovate more effectively, improve competitive positioning and achieve growth.

When question about the areas of reduction, the company stated they would not provide details, but stated that “the workforce reduction was across all functions”.

DOMAINfest Global 2012 Dates Announced by DomainSponsor

DomainSponsor, the domain name monetization unit of and organizer of the DOMAINfest series of conferences, has announced it will return to the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica for their annual DOMAINfest Global event from January 31 to February 2, 2012.

As in past years, the entire Fairmont Miramar Hotel has been reserved exclusively for DOMAINfest Global in order to provide attendees with an intimate, distraction-free environment that maximizes networking opportunities.

Highlights from the February 2011 conference included a standing-room-only keynote address from legendary Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons, plus an entertaining fireside chat with Ben Mezrich, author of The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook. More than 700 domain name investors, online marketing professionals, and service providers from 30 countries attended the conference. A party at they event also made it into the main stream media through a mysterious illness that about 1/4 of the attendees.

Registration for the event will opens September 1st with an early bird registration fee of $995, which includes all sessions, meals and official evening parties, will apply from September 1 through September 30.  From October 1 through December 31 the standard discounted rate will be $1,195 per attendee.  Beginning on January 1, the regular pre-conference rate of $1,295 will apply. Discounted hotel room rates at the Fairmont Miramar hotel are available.

The company is also holding a New York Meet-Up event on August 23 from 7:00-10:00 p.m.  at the Mad46 Rooftop Lounge, on the 19th floor of the Roosevelt Hotel at Madison Avenue and 46th Street. Attendees will enjoy speed networking, dinner and cocktails. Registration is $150 and is available online. Last year the NYC meeting was a “power networking day”, but for this year it has been transformed into an evening meeting, the price was lowered by $25.
