AboutUs, a website wiki service that receives over 7 million hits per month, has secured $2.5 million worth of financing from Voyager Capital whose managing director, Erik Benson, also opted to join its board.

AboutUs is a 3-year-old business startup with an early record of success. The company is already turning a profit by generating revenue through online advertising and consulting services, but it’s looking for more. CEO Ray King (also the founder of Snapnames) wants the company to expand beyond being a Wikipedia for online businesses – he has a vision where the community evolves into a collaborative workspace where business owners can connect with likeminded individuals and exchange ideas for further growth.

“Our purpose is [to] transform the way people work together, that is our long-term goal,” said King in an article by TechFlash. “When I saw the first wiki years ago, I was moved because I saw immediately that this was going to change the way I worked in the world.”

The current business concept is thriving because people so often browse the Internet by entering domain names into the search engine. Since AboutUs is built around the URLs, it often has a good search engine positioning and receives a significant amount of traffic.
