Cat5.com Buys RunningShoes.com For $700,000

by Adam Strong in Categories: Domain Sales, Up to the Minute

The announcement of the sale of RunningShoes.com is making it’s way around the domain blogs yesterday and today.  Cat5.com owner Chad Weinman emailed all the domain blogs yesterday notifying them of his purchase of the domain name for $700,000.  Since the sale was so large, most of us waited for confirmation or proof of sale.

The sale marks the largest domain name sale to date for 2011. The sale contract specifies that it was for the domain name, good will and intangibles (such as associated contracts with vendors) only and not any of the other assets of the business like inventory, real estate, etc.  RunningShoes.com is an ecommerce website which, as one would suspect, sells running shoes.

    I enjoyed their tweet to Matt Cutts the other day, in response to his video about keywords in a domain name:

    Dear @mattcutts, RunningShoes.com IS our brand. Not just a “keyword domain name.”

    @Aaron yea I can sympathize there a little too :) Domain Name News

    Well, I have the dot tv version of the name which was set to expire on 5-7, but after reading this report, I guess I will renew it for another year.

    Hey, ya never know……..

    Sounds like it isn’t a domain sale but the sale of a developed site. For just a domain along the price makes little sense to me.

    It might be a developed site but you could not call the existing site authoritative or a quality high end website. Seems to me the name was the game.

    @snoop

    well, it’s for a domain name alright, and sometimes they do use words like good will and intangibles with domain sales.

    i agree with you on the price though, it’s a bit too expensive
