Rick Schwartz’s widgets.com does not sell on eBay
After Rick Schwartz decided to stop blogging due to what he feels is the failure of the industry to defend itself against initiatives such as the Snowe Bill by joining the ICA, he had listed the domain name “widgets.com” for sale on eBay. The auction just ended with a high bid of US $175,100.00, but failed to meet the reserve.

Oh boy. Get ready for a 15 paragraph rant on his forum or blog excoriating all of us for failing to see the value of widgets.com.
I do find it interesting that he has been selling off his choice names these past few months.

I heard through a friend that although Rick did not sell widgets.com on ebay, he did sell it for $11m privately. Personally I find that hard to believe but he is the domain king so good for him if it’s true. Can anyone confirm this sale?

It’s still listed in his company name. I would be extremely surprised (happily so) if this was true. Have you friend email me his/her source.

Okay. I just got the skinny from Rick himself. He did NOT sell the name. Someone started a rumor…for whatever reason.
